You can’t Hide on Twitter
Sgt Jeremy Scott, a Scotland Yard Sergeant from Milton Keynes has resigned over offensive Tweets about former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
Sgt Scott quit after being exposed and confronted by the Daily Mail over the messages in which he said he hoped Margaret Thatchers death was ‘degrading and painful’.
In a series of Tweets on the @thinbluespeck account, aka Sgt Scottt posted tweets saying:
‘Goodnight Twitter. The world is a better place today now that **** is dead. Now for Cameron, May and Osborne’
‘Marvellous stuff! Margaret Thatcher’s death greeted with street parties in Brixton and Glasgow’
A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “The officer concerned today submitted his resignation and it was accepted with immediate effect.”
Metropolitan Police Commander Allan Gibson added: “This officer’s behaviour was completely unacceptable and it is right that he has resigned.”
When will people learn that what they write on Twitter is being policed nowadays and it is wise to be weary what you tweet! What you chose to say in your own living room is entirely up to you, but once it goes out into a social, public arena you are subject to being judged and held accountable for those opinions.
