Someone has clearly not thought about their website content. As a visitor, why would I want to come back to this website? I’ve just become another bounce rate statistic. Here’s how you can stop yourself from following the same mistakes as others…
Use headlines – this could be in the form of images or just text. It will help the visitor to understand what they are viewing and aid them in finding what they’re looking for. It will also gain the attention of the visitor, so make it stand out by being bold and creative. Consider your use of colour and highlight important words such as a FREE Offer.
Include links to other pages on your site. These can be in text links or links from images and banners – this will help keep visitors on your site. In some instances, you can even link to other websites such as partner companies. Get other sites to link back to you. This will show your use of interaction as that’s what the World Wide Web is all about: connecting people together.
This has got to be one of the most important points when writing content for a website. Be short and sweet, get your point across and don’t go into unnecessary detail. Keep information on the homepage specific to what the visitor needs to know – you only have a few seconds for a visitor to look at your homepage and understand what you do. If it’s unclear or not relevant, they’ll leave. So remember, SHORT AND SWEET.
