How important is Social Media to sports teams.
That really is the question; just how important has it got over the last few years? I honestly think it is very important. Football clubs especially are leaning across the world to increase their brand by using social media. Social media is one of the easiest ways to interact with fans all across the world; which can then increase their global fan base.
Social media has really pushed sports teams into a new dimension. Teams can now get their message across much easier and quicker! For example, just yesterday The Premier League game between Everton and Crystal Palace had been postponed just an hour before the game would start. Everton quickly got onto Social Media and then posted about the game being cancelled; instantly informing thousands of fans.
Ric Wee was a fan due to go to the game for the first time in 30 years. He posted about the cancellation which then went viral; this is what he said….
Due to the amount of Retweets he had received Everton Football club responded by inviting him to meet all his heroes…
I found this to be a really nice gesture by Everton, which couldn’t of been done without social media. I’m sure there are many cases out there for people who have been to games in the past for the first time just like Ric Wee, only to find it cancelled, don’t you just wish it could happen to you… #PowerofSocialMedia
