Outsource Your Social Media

Social media is a not a new thing; yet some businesses are only just discovering it’s potential reach, benefits and potential. Social media is everywhere you turn; with many businesses throwing a great deal of resource at the phenomena.

Vertical Response Marketing carried out a survey of 500 small businesses, finding that 1/3 of owners, proprietors and CEOs want to spend less time on social media. We understand that; the majority of our clients are in exactly the same boat. They just don’t have the time to do everything else plus the social side.

YET 2/3 are spending more time online than they did the previous year, even though they struggle with the added workload.

SO – there lies the inevitable question: Do we outsource our Social Media?

Here is the killer question that will underpin most decisions about whether or not to outsource the task: Does your staff have the time, and more importantly the expertise, to effectively handle social media tasks?

According to Forbes.com It can take up to 32 hours a month for a midsize company to effectively manage just one social media platform.

Social media takes a real investment of time in order to stay on top of an ever changing landscape. If you are only posting ‘when you find time’, meaning some weeks (or even months) your social platforms are a ghost town; it would be wise to considering outsourcing the task so to avoid losing potential customers and weakening your brand position.

Does whoever you have working on social media in your business know how to get the most from each platform? How do you leverage Facebook for business for example?  And what about Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, Foursquare, Yelp, LinkedIn, and all the others?  This is just the tip of the iceberg.

Using social media for marketing is a whole lot different than using it for personal purposes. This is why it isn’t a good idea to hire a young college student, or someone just out of school without much work or life experience to take on your social media marketing.  A solid understanding of business and marketing is essential.  Maturity and experience are important.
